Bipolar I
- Depressive episodes commonly lasting two weeks or more
- Extreme mood swings
- Manic episodes with delusions, excessive energy, hallucinations, and/or racing thoughts – possibly requiring hospitalization

Bipolar II
- Depressive episodes commonly lasting two weeks or more
- Extreme mood swings
- Hypomania – less severe than mania, but still disruptive to daily activities
- Affects appetite, judgment, and sleep
Cyclothymic Disorder
- Depressive symptoms lasting at least two years, but not as severe as a depressive episode
- Hypomania – less severe than mania, but still disruptive to daily activities
- Affects appetite, energy, and sleep
